It was a one two three on the day and one two three in the championship as Muchmore team drivers dominated the last round of the BRCA modified championship and took the top three podium places in the series.
The final round of this year’s national series took place at the Cotswold track, a venue very popular with the modified drivers. Over night Olly Jefferies held the FTD with a new track record, this meeting being an experimental two day format. Andy Moore took FTD off his Hot Bodies / Orion team mate on Sunday by less than a second with Chris Grainger third for Yokomo.
The two finals were close fought affairs with Olly giving chase to Andy as a large crowd enjoyed a titanic battle up front, Chris struggled to keep up the pace but sat in wait in case either of the Hot Bodies duo slipped up, at this pace a mistake was inevitable and it was Andy that clipped a kerb and allowed Olly to pass on the very last lap, but as Olly drove for the line his batteries went soft and Chris sneaked through for the win.
The next final was as good as the first and again Olly crawled all over Andy’s boot for the entirety of the race, then as the they crossed the line to complete their last lap Olly drove past Andy as once again he went soft, but as before Chris had drove conservatively and he had enough battery power to dive past Olly as the cars completed the last few corners.
Everyone took a deep breath after what had been two classic finals, Andy and Olly had made the decision to race, it would have been easy option for them to go with team orders and take an easy one two, but both wanted to win, racing at this pace puts a great deal of load on batteries and there was a certain amount of inevitability that one or both of them would struggle with run time. Chris was delighted with what to him was a surprise victory, but sometimes they are the most enjoyable.
Chris, Andy and Olly had been the front runners in the series all season and the final championship positions reflected this, it was three national titles on the bounce for Chris and Yokomo, the Hot Bodies / Orion duo of Andy Moore and Olly second and third.
