T.O.P. Scythe driver, Ali Graham, took 1st place at Round 8 of the Carpet Thrashnals yesterday. Read his race report below: Yesterday I traveled the long journey to the round 8 of the Carpet Thrashnal series down in Chippenham, racing in the competitive 19t class.
With no official practice, this meant that round one of qualifying was pretty much left aside for people to learn the track and get to grip with the conditions. The car felt pretty sketchy in this run, and I made quite a number of changes for round 2.

In the second round, the car felt much better, and with a slightly messy run due to being seeded in a low(ish) heat, I managed 4th overall. I made another small change for the third run, as I felt grip roll was a possibility with the way the car was in round 2.
The car felt quite a bit better, but I still remained 4th. Into the fourth and final round of qualifying, I made one small change to my tyre treatment in order to make the car more consistent and easier to push throughout the run. This worked very well to my benefit, allowing me to qualify in 3rd position for the 19t A final.

The A final started off very clean for the top 5, and for the first couple of laps we preceded in qualifying order, until a mistake from myself moved me down to fourth. A mistake from the pole sitter about one minute in allowed me up to third. After tailing the second place man, a small mistake on his behalf moved me up to second place. As I slowly but surely closed in on the leader, a small radio glitch slowed him down, and allowed me to move up to first, a position I was to hold for the remainder of the race.

The T.O.P Scythe performed brilliantly throughout the day and opened many people’s eyes as to the capabilities of the chassis, as it remained fast and consistent and suffered no breakages whatsoever - I personally feel that the car was incredible on the day! Many thanks to Ali for the report, set-up and photographs. See the Scythe set-up sheet here. |
